Emerging Thundersticks Program training returns for Term 3
Published Wed 30 Jul 2025
As the club season heads into its final stretch, Hockey WA is ramping its training efforts for the Under 14, 16, and 18 Emerging Thundersticks programs.
Throughout August and September, athletes will engage in intensive sessions designed to sharpen skills, build team cohesion, and prepare for upcoming competitions including club finals and the KMSB Youth International Gryphon Cup.
Sessions will be held at Perth Hockey Stadium from 6.00am to 7.30am, offering athletes a focused environment to develop their game.
Training will run across six weeks, with athletes able to choose between one or two sessions per week:
- One session per week (Monday or Wednesday): $250.00
- Two sessions per week (Monday and Wednesday): $480.00
If an athlete misses a session, they can make it up the following week. Those enrolled in two sessions per week will receive credit for missed sessions toward Term 4 programs.
Training Dates
- Week 1: Monday 11 August or Wednesday 13 August
- Week 2: Monday 18 August or Wednesday 20 August
- Week 3: Monday 25 August or Wednesday 27 August
- Week 4: Monday 1 September or Wednesday 3 September
- Week 5: Monday 8 September or Wednesday 10 September
- Week 6: Monday 15 September or Wednesday 17 September
Age Group Structure and Flexibility
Athletes will be grouped by age brackets, but flexibility is built into the program.
If an athlete wishes to train with a different age group, they can notify coaches upon arrival.
Coaches will also assess athletes during sessions and may recommend group changes based on skill level to ensure optimal development.
Specialised Goalkeeper Training
Goalkeepers will receive tailored training within the sessions, focusing on repetitive efforts, first touch and clearance techniques.
Hockey WA plans to include a specialist goalkeeper trainer to enhance the quality of instruction.
