Hockey WA teams up with WhistleIQ to foster Umpire Development

Published Wed 13 May 2026

Hockey WA is pleased to announce a new partnership with WhistleIQ to further support the development of officials across Western Australian hockey.

The collaboration follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Hockey WA and WhistleIQ, focused on enhancing umpire coaching, assessment and development across all levels of the pathway.

Throughout the 2026 season, the WhistleIQ platform will be used to deliver structured, consistent, and high-quality feedback to umpires. Weekly-appointed Umpire Coaches will utilise the platform to provide coaching and mentoring across the Premier Divisions, including the TeamStar Premier League, and Junior 11/12 Division 1. Full Umpire Coach coverage will also be delivered for all J9/10 Division 1 matches through the Rising Stars Umpire Academy.

The use of WhistleIQ will support clear and practical feedback, encourage ongoing learning through timely insights, and strengthen the umpiring pathway from the Rising Stars Umpire Academy through to high-performance levels. The platform will also assist mentors to track progress over time, remain engaged with developing umpires, and help creative a supportive and rewarding environment that encourages officials to stay in the game. Ultimately, the partnership aims to lift the standard of umpiring across competitions.

Hockey WA Chief Executive Officer Graham Reid said the partnership represents an exciting step forward for officiating in Western Australian hockey.

“We are delighted to partner with WhistleIQ as we continue to invest in the growth and development of our officials,” he said.

“Umpires play a critical role in our game, and this collaboration will ensure they receive the structured support, feedback, and opportunities they need to progress and perform with confidence.”
